Pros:
Great tool for the initial cut of long joints. It’s easy to keep straight and the serrated blade really cuts through the rocks easily. We’ve noticed the concrete cracks every time in the joint after using this tool rather than only using a standard finish jointer.
Cons:
The flat top ends tend to dig into the concrete once you get far out onto the pad even with the 45° cuts. Other brands use chamfered ends which help tremendously to keep it on top of the concrete. The tool is pretty thin so you’ve really got to pay attention to keep it flat, it’d help if it were a bit wider. The depth of cut is not adjustable, I need a 2” cut for 8” concrete and this tool is only acceptable to use for 7” concrete and below (based on 25% cut depth). We only use this tool for the initial first cut then have to finish with a walking jointer due to the roughness of the edges.
Overall:
It’s a must have in our toolbox and our go to tool for long initial cuts, keeps them very straight. Can it be easily improved to become a standout tool? Heck yes!
