The chart below shows the number of standard sized face brick and building brick required for masonry walls laid with four commonly used bonds using ½” mortar joints. For smaller or larger mortar joints you must add or subtract the following percentages from the data.
1/8” mortar joints - add 21 percent
1/4” mortar joints - add 14 percent
3/8” mortar joints - add 7 percent
5/8” mortar joints - subtract 5 percent
3/4”mortar joints - subtract 10 percent
7/8” mortar joints - subtract 15 percent
1” mortar joints - subtract 20 percent
